Understanding games

Written by Avatar Lorenz on May 30th, 2008 - Read: 726 times Stumble It!

Pixelate recently has published 4 games, with a very very simple graphic to explain the concepts of video games. The look is more like a video tutorial but they are interactive and quite funny to follow.
The main characters of these Tutorials-Games are Bob & Bub, 2 little squares made by few colors, but unpredictable funny. The brown one Bub is the more serious and is the one that explain how games work, the yellow one is Bob and he is the typical gamer. After every explanation the palyer can experience these concepts directly while playing the integrated games.

Episode 1
It deals with rules, interactivity, representation and simulation in games.

Episode 2
It deals with the player’s motivation to continue playing instead of leaving a game and examines what makes a game fun – instead of frustrating – to play.

Episode 3
It deals with the principles of learning in video games.

Episode 4
It deals with identification in video games.
