How to import games to your site from MochiAds

June 27th, 2009 - Category: MochiAds, PHP, Publishers
MochiAds gives you the possibility to directly download the games to your site through JSON.
The problem is that many people has no clue how this thing works, that's why i have created a script that not only allows you to Download how many games you want from theire site, but gives you the possibility to use the button "Post to my site" that is on the page of every game on MochiAds for manuale downloading.

Mochiads Logo

This script will only unpack the JSON, then you will have to put everything in your own Database and downloading the files the way you want wherever you want. For example you can use the method:
file_put_contents("where you want the file to be", file_get_contents("url of the file on mochiads"));

The only thing you have to change in the code is the Publisher ID, you can find your own here.
If you are going to use the manual submission from MochiAds dont forget to add the link to the file where you put this script in "Auto POST URL".
I set the type of games to download to only featured games, if you want to download all just change "featured_games" to "all".
Please enjoy and share. Emoticon

PHP
$pubID = "Here put your Publisher ID";
$gt=$_POST['game_tag'];
$extrag=$_POST['extrag'];
$typeGame="featured_games"; // Change it to 'all' if you want to import all the games.

if($gt!=""||$extrag!=""){
	if($gt!=""){
		$json=file_get_contents("http://www.mochiads.com/feeds/games/".$pubID."/".$gt."/?format=json");
		$n=1;
	}

	if($extrag!=""){
		$json=file_get_contents("http://www.mochiads.com/feeds/games/".$pubID."/".$typeGame."/all?format=json&limit=".$extrag);
		$n=$extrag;
	}

	$jsonArr=json_decode($json,true);

	$g=0;
	while($g<$n){
		$gameArr=$jsonArr["games"][$g];
		$name=$gameArr["name"];
		$description=$gameArr["description"];
		$instructions=$gameArr["instructions"];
		$swfUrl=$gameArr["swf_url"];
		$imgUrl=$gameArr["thumbnail_url"];
		$category=$gameArr["categories"][0]; // This is an Array [0] will take the first catgeory choosen.
		$keywords="";
		$nTags=count($gameArr['tags']);
		for($i=0;$i<$nTags;$i++){
			$keywords=$keywords.$gameArr['tags'][$i].' ';
		}
		$width=$gameArr["width"];
		$height=$gameArr["height"];
		$g++;

		echo "<a target='_blank' rel='nofollow' href=".$swfUrl." target="_blank"><img style='margin:10px 0px 10px 0px; border: solid 2px #FFFFFF;' src=".$imgUrl."> ".$name."</a><br>";
	}
}

Make a game with PlayCrafter without a line of code!

June 25th, 2009 - Category: Developers
If you have alwasy wanted to make a game but you have zero clue about programming, today to help you there is PlayCrafter!
This brand new site is like a huge level editor, very similiar to Splooder that has tons of objects to just drag and drop on the stage.
It has the potential to make really good games.
It's like the TorqueX of Flash. So in some sorts, yes, it is more like a powerful level editor...

Watch this teaser to understand better:

That's PlayCrafter! not a single line of code needed...
As you can see you have a big list of objects divided in categories, plus you can use game templates to make just the game you want.

There are almost 20 game templates to choose.

PlayCrafter Template

On LorenzGames we have accepted 2 games made with PlayCrafter, one is Matcheroo and the other one is Buggy Bricks.

Just remember that not a line of code means you have the control they gave you.
You will not be able to earn anything from them and of course you will not be able to sell licenses of them or place the logo of your site.
I think the idea is quite good, people may start with this and then as they strive for more options they will eventually have to turn to programming in Flash!

How to start to make Flash Games?

April 19th, 2009 - Category: Developers
To start to make Flash Games is actually not that complicated, anyone with a lil bit of passion and time can have a try!
I suggest you to download Adobe Flash CS4 from Adobe, they will give you for free the 30 days trial version, so you can evaluate it.
OnLine you can even find some free programs that compile ActionScript, like FlashDevelop.

Then, when you get your program check on Google for: ActionScritp 3 Tutorials.
You can find the best on the site of Emanuele Feronato.

Kirupa is a good forum where you can register and ask any question you want about ActionScript 3 (Shortly AS3).

On LorenzGames you can have an idea of the best flash games made by the best game designers on the world.
I organized few super best game on another site ILikeToGame, you can check them.

In this industry they pay those games from $3k to $10k for the cool ones or more for awesomeness, or you can just put your own advertising like MochiAds, there are so many ways of monetization with this kind of games, you just need to start and give a try! Emoticon

Where to submit your Flash Game when it's finished

March 12th, 2009 - Category: Developers
Many times after we make a game is our work to distribute it.
Probably the most important places where to submit it are:

Kongregate

The problem on Kongregate is that usually if a game dosent have theire achivements, the users tend to vote it low and write bad reviews only becouse they can not earn points from playing it, so they are not always accurate.

Newgrounds

Newgrounds is a lil bit more mature, usually they analyze the game better before to review it, but it's good to be sure about your game before you post it becouse if you get a good rating it can go on the first page, generating a huge ammount of hits.

Flash Game Distribution

This is a good place where to put your game becouse they have a program where other sites can go and take your game to put on their sites.

Nonoba

It is still growing, but i belive they are going to be an important site soon, so keep your eyes on it.

And of course LorenzGames Emoticon

Especially the first 2 they have a huge community that will rewview your game and give you some feedback to make it better.

Then for the massive distribution, have a look at this list!
Enjoy Emoticon

The Battle Begins

February 17th, 2009 - Category: Multiplayer
The Battle Begins is one of the newest competitive gaming websites out there. Battle Points are completely free and you earn them from being active on the site. You can post in the forums, log in once a day to get a small BP reward, or even refer your friends to the site and be rewarded for those that stay active after a period. They also are hosting tournaments for their users. One such tourney is the Connect 4 tourney which we will be holding on the 21st of February 2009 at 3PM EST and will go on until the last match has been played of course. They will use our LorenzGames Connect4, COOL! All of the tourney's have a prize of some sort ranging from Battle Points to cash. The tourney is accepting a maximum of thirty-two people so hurry and register while there is still time. In the Connect 4 tourney prizes go as follows: first place gets 1000 BP, second gets 500 BP, and third gets 250 BP. Not bad for playing a simple game, eh?

What Casual Players Really Want Right Now Is Multiplayer

July 8th, 2008 - Category: Multiplayer
These last 3 weeks have been very successful for me, I just won 3 contests with 2 of my games on Nonoba. The first one was Connect4 Multiplayer, the classic Connect4 game with something more, the possibility of playing together with people from all over the world. It won the weekly contest of $500 and the Monthly Contest of $2.500, generating 160.000 users in 2 weeks. The game was made in about 2 hours, which means I worked for 1.500/hour, pretty good no? Emoticon The other game is Bombators Multiplayer, a remake of Atomic Bomberman in Multiplayer with the chance to play with 4 players in real-time. It got the front page of the most important game websites as Newgrounds and Minijuegos This is a video of the game. This game won the weekly competition of $500 and its on the first place for the monthly competition of July. But the amazing thing is that in the first 3 days it has generated 70.000 hits and 7.000 new subscribers thanks to the game. This game was made in about a week. The weirdest thing is that any company contacted me yet to create games for them… I think they haven’t seen it yet… Emoticon However, while trying to distribute my games, I found many problems. People from other portals didn’t like to have the Nonoba logo in the game, and so they decided to not publish the game on their websites, probably they were scared Nonoba was going to steal them users? LoL Anyway, if you want to try to make a Multiplayer thing, the first important thing is to know AS3 very good. Then go on Nonoba Developers and download the Multiplayer SDK. I suggest you to start with something very simple, like a card games or a board games. Let me know if it turns in something good Emoticon

Away3D - The Future Of 3D Flash Games

May 26th, 2008 - Category: 3D
I have been using Flash for long time, I guess the first time I started to use it, it was still in Beta Version 1; that time I used it just to make simple animation for a cartoon studio. With the years I have seen it growing so much, but, what I really wanted from it was the possibility to use 3D stuff inside my applications; for many years this has been impossible if you didn't want to use Shockwave. Last year something changed with Sandy, for the first time it was possible to see real 3D objects in a simple Flash Application. From that day other 2 major engines were developed: Papervision3D and Away3D. Sandy was pretty good for those who still were using ActionScript 2.0, but, what really changed the cards on the table was Away3D, created by the mind of Alexander Zadorozhny.

Away3D is, in my humble opinion, one of the most powerful engine to create 3D contents with Flash. Easy documentation, lots of tutorials, the possibility to import OBJ 3DS and MD2 files, a very active developers forum where any kind of doubt is solved in less than one day. At beginning I started to use Away3D to create superlative Website at The Adory, when one day I thought: I should try to make a game with this stuff! I made Ultimate Battleship 3D and, well the result was not the best game ever but to be the first game made with Away3D was pretty good, actually I sold a NON-Exclusive License for it of $250 Emoticon.

After it I made: Pistoleros Cannon Alone Carnival Hammers Fartunes Jumper Miss Primp The last one had lots of success on MySpace.com with the girls audience, because they could create their own avatar to put on their profile.

With the Version 10 of Flash the things will change even more, because the new player will be able to use the GPU of our computer to enhance 3D acceleration, and the men at the Away3D Team told me to stay tuned because big news is coming! I want to thanks Peter Kapelyan, Fabrice Closier and Rob Bateman for all the support they gave to me during the development of my games. Emoticon Soon I will add some tutorials on this Blog to explain all the things that it is possible to do with this amazing engine.
